And the music…it’s amazing, and I’m talking about the new tracks, with some remakes of the classics, but the thing is…that’s not all, we can also use the old SoR1 and SoR2 tracks too, for all the stages…it’s simply beautiful, but the music team in charge of the re-imagined tracks and the new ones also did a very good job in my opinion and they really fit the tone of the game quite well. The amount of little throwbacks and easter eggs from previous games is also there, of course, as expected, and overall it feels like a true joy playing this game when one did experience those great times back in the 90s with our friends, sitting on our couches, playing on the good old fat and trusty CRT TVs, with chunky controllers in our hands. I feel the same for SoR 4, it scratches that itch “need to play again, one more time, this time I’ll do better”, we all know how that feels, don’t we? Like many classic games from the 90s, 8 and 16 bit games, they weren’t long games, but they were difficult, and for a good couple hours, they were all worth playing again and again, and this is what SoR 4 captures, among many other aspects of its predecessors, in my opinion.

Most of the stuff present in the previous three games is in SoR 4 in some form or another, it’s not a carbon copy of the same formula, but a good improvement in my opinion, without disrespecting the originals of course, they are, after all, classic games, and they should remain as that, great games worth re-playing over and over and over.

The game is not easy, as it should be, because it has plenty of depth on each of the characters to learn a lot of stuff in the form of different combos, combined with juggling mechanics, special moves that remove a temporal portion of HP, that we then we can recover by hitting enemies without getting hit (usually takes a couple seconds at best, but we need to be careful, which adds to the tension and concentration), and even star moves. The controls are tight, the frame-rate is 60 FPS smooth as silk, as it should be, and everything feels in the hands of us, the players.
